If you like hiking, you are well-advised at the Hotel Fürberg - Wolfgangsee. We arrange hiking poles, backpacks, water jugs, hiking maps and first aid equipment for you. If desired, we also prepare a packed lunch for your field trip.

Ideal for family hiking tours is the easy circular route Zwölferhorn. Be inspired by the impressive view of the Wolfgangsee. It’s also possible to gain this marvellous view without any effort – just use the cable car to the Zwölferhorn and experience a fantastic trip.

Passing Falkenstein to St. Wolfgang...

Passing Falkenstein to St. Wolfgang...

Probably one of the most beautiful hiking tours is from Falkenstein to St. Wolfgang.

From the starting point at the Inn / Hotel Fürberg – St. Gilgen at the Wolfgangsee – you walk just along the lake in direction Badeplatz/Fürberg until you come to the “Badekiosk”. Here you go left to Falkenstein. You go uphill through the forest on the famous pilgrim’s path, passing the Stations of the Cross until you come to the Falkensteinkapelle (Kraftplatz) – a chapel. Don’t hesitate to strike the bell of the chapel. Should it strike three times, one says, that you have a wish for free. You go on to the Wasserkapelle  (it says that there flows curative water), the Bildstockkapelle and the Hackenwurfkapelle (it is said after the legend that Saint Wolfgang should have thrown his axe here and has founded St. Wolfgang) you come to Ried – at the Wolfgangsee – Salzkammergut and walk along the lake to St. Wolfgang.

Walking time about 2.5 hours.

To the Schafberg (1783m)...

To the Schafberg (1783m)...

From the inn & Hotel Fürberg – St. Gilgen at the Wolfgangsee - the way to Winkl takes you to the Waldschenke. From there you go steadily uphill through a beautiful mixed forest until you reach the Schafbergalm after about 2-hour walking time. A wonderful panoramic view over the Mondsee, Wolfgangsee, Salzkammergut and the surrounding mountains makes your heart beat faster. The alp invites to a short rest and then you go further in direction Schafbergspitze. If you start your hiking tour early in the morning, you can see chamois or other game animals.

After about an hour walking time you reach the peak of the Schafberg. The view from there is absolutely exciting and not for nothing the Schafberg is called the most beautiful vantage point of the Salzkammergut.

Walking time about 3 hours.
